Would anyone venture to say if a slight loosening of this front screw could fix the issue? If so, the "locktite" must come off so a blade can fit in the screw slot. I would have backed it off a bit to see if that made the needle swing freely but the screw head has a compound on it no doubt to keep it in place. The front one though is readily accessible with the lens off. Access to the rear one is denied by a piece of tape like that used to seal the meter. With the mechanism exposed, I saw that there are 2 screws - one in front and one at the rear. Watching the meter operate before removing it, I also noticed it was not rising as far as it should either. Sometimes the needle will fall all the way to "0" but sometimes not. Blowing on the needle will not move it but a gentle physical nudge will. So far I disconnected, removed and popped the the lens off the meter for close examination. Since I am unsure how much attention is paid to the Other Tape category, I'm posting here because the deck in question is a Marantz TDR-820 8 track.Īfter a little work it records and plays fine except the needle travel in one of the VU meters is impeded.
